FACTORY
We chose to manufacture in Summit County, Colorado for one major reason: we believe it to be the best representation of a true snowboard industry and culture. Our factory is located near 8 world class resorts, countless acres of snowmobile access, hike to terrain, hitchhike terrain, and duck ropes terrain. Conveniently, we are closely connected to our material distributors and just a short trip down the mountain to the larger metropolitan area (Denver).
Our crew enjoys 8 months of winter. Building, riding, and destroying snowboards. Nightmare Headquarters is located in the best place on Earth to build these snowboards. Our 3,500 sq. ft. facility houses many things: presses, robots, tools, materials, printers, computers, tshirts, a full tuneshop, logcabin bar, miniramp, ninja wall, a few dogs, and a few more dogs... most importantly our factory attracts a bunch of people. These people usually turn into lifelong friends with us till the end. The factory is always busy with opportunity, providing a lot less lurking and a lot more working... and hanging out, shredding, talking shit, drinking beer, filming/editing videos, loading bowls, tuning gear, slashing the ramp, making stickers, helping with graphics, painting, running from the law, printing tshirts, spamming facebook friends, and best of all building snowboards.
We could not be where we are without the community of Summit County supporting our efforts. Hopefully you have met us on the mountain, attended one of our unruly parties, sketchy rail jams, or at least stopped in for skatenight... or movienight. If you haven't done any of those we suggest you re-prioritize and make yourself less of a stranger. We have 4 owners and 0 employees at this point, yet manage to keep this place staffed and running thanks to the cooperative involvement of our community. Afterall, we are Summit County, and all we got is us.
Our snowboards are designed and shaped on sophisticated machines to ensure accuracy and repeatability. While a lot of hands go into building a snowboard, we will never make false claims that reffer to our boards as "hand built". To us, thats just a load of crap other companies use to trick the consumer into thinking there is a lonely, jaded, and tired snowboarder in some basement factory carving your board out of some magical piece of wood. It's a lie, and we won't stand behind it. Honestly, a true craftsman is responsible for our product looking the way it does. Art, assembly, and finishing are done by snowboarders who know our standards. We strive to innovate fresh production methods in order to keep our boards and tools state of the art, but we wont bore you with all the unnecessary details. Know that we are doing everything to push ourselves forward and far away from this industries bullshit.Nightmare snowboards are made on earth by modern robots that have been injected with souls.
ETHOS
At Nightmare we build snowboards. We set out to ensure that the snowboard industry can be rightfully and entirely in the hands of snowboarders, one step at a time. We also hold ourselves to some pretty high standards. We hold these standards to build a premium product connected with an equally premium visual representation. We remain true to these standards while pushing forward thinking directly from the inside of the snowboard industry. We are involving ourselves in snowboarding innovations, and strive to have as much fun as possible in the process.
Our influences come directly from the origins of the snowboarding sub-culture. Deeply rooted in a skate-shop mentality, where "support" means a lot more and our "cause" does not have the dollar sign getting in the way of the bottom line. Learning from skateboarding, surfing, mountaineering, early ski engineering, terrible decisions, life, art and music. In production, we have taken cues from major manufacturing practices as well as technological innovations. Our goal was to create an American manufacturing facility in the heartland of snowboarding, instead of moving offshore and creating a "brand". We understand our place within snowboarding and anticipate a future away from the standard and always looking upon new frontiers.
We stand for American manufacturing, materials, and labor. We do this because this country is our home. This isn't some corporate agenda or redneck pride, it's just our way of helping support and be proud of where we live. We do this to bring year round jobs to an area where most of the population lives unemployed and underemployed while billions of dollars flow right through laborers palms and far away from our community. We do this to ensure that our material distributors can continue supplying us with everything we need to keep building snowboards. We do this to emphasize innovation and not get stuck in harmful or ineffective manufacturing practices. Creating everything in house insures our possibilities are endless. It's rad that we can build really fun snowboards, but we also think it's rad that we can build jobs for people.
We are at the very beginning of our journey, over the last year we have designed, developed, and perfected both our process and our snowboards. Over the next year we will do the same thing, and the following year, the same thing. We are lucky enough to be on our own schedule, instead of one dictated by the "industry". This enables us to develop faster than the "leading" manufacturers technologies.
We are snowboarders, not pros, & certainly not suits. We are not a brand, we are not an OEM, we are a snowboard co-operative. Our work is for snowboarders, and at the end of the day we only have ourselves to answer to. However, most importantly, the customer is encouraged to question our answers. Afterall, every NIGHTMARE snowboard is built to its customers specifications. Without you in mind, we'd be stuck way behind…
